The wife didn't look happy at all when Eiji picked up more tofu
with his chopsticks and placed them on her rice bowl. "Eat,
eat." He said again as he went back eating himself. "Gotta have
a strong body for a strong kid, right?" He smiled at this,
before staring up at the ceiling. "Now what was I talking about
again?"
The silence penetrated the room.
Eiji looked outside, he could sense something going wrong
somewhere. "That's weird, the cops aren't screaming anymore."
"They're probably planning an assault right now or something."
Ron said under his breath, yet it was loud enough for Eiji to
pick it up.
"Ya think so? I thought they wouldn't plan an assault till after
the sun went down or something, ya know?" Eiji said between
gobbles of food. "I mean, it would make sense and all to do
that, right? Attack when everything is dark, maybe even cut off
the power and use those dark vision goggles or something and
shoot me when I'm blind from no light."
Nobody else at the table but Eiji was eating, yet they all
stared at him.
"Um..." Leyla started to say, but was unsure if she should.
"Yes?" Eiji responded to her.
"W-Why are you doing this?"
"Eating with you guys, you mean?"
"W-Well, no." Her voice got dimmer as she continued. "I meant,
this whole hostage situation and..."
"Well, it didn't exactly turn out as I wanted it to..."
"Then what..."
"I was kinda just thinking about hunting some deers, ya know,
when I bought this shotgun?" Eiji raised the weapon that was
sitting besides him the whole time. "I know it probably sucks as
a weapon for deers, but it feels more manly than a rifle, ya
know? It's like when you see those action heroes in the movies,
they always hold a shotgun when they're ready to kick some @$$,
right? So I figured I'd look cooler with a shotgun, more manly,
you might say.
"So I buy it, go home, and get all ready for the hunt, right?"
He raises his index finger towards the ceiling. "Or so I thought
I did, but the truth was that I bought the shotgun, and was
walking home, yet before I could reach home, I pass by you guys'
house." He waves his finger as he thinks hard for the words he
wants to say next. "But..." He pauses as he waves his finger
some more. "Something just felt weird, ya know? Like a kind of
possessive feeling or something, that takes you over and makes
you do things."
"What are you talking about?" Ron spat as he said this.
"Hold on, hold on." Eiji held up his palm towards Ron. "I'm
getting to it." He clears his throat. "So I walk past your
house, and this feeling possesses me, alright? It was kinda like
a halucination or something, when everything in the world seems
disturbed, kinda like when you take 'shrooms, ya know?" He
crackles as he says this. "But not really, because it kinda
depresses you and makes you say to yourself, 'My whole life is a
delusion and I've wasted this whole time doing nothing'."
Eiji looks up, and their silence and surprised looks didn't
exactly prompt him to go on.
"Well, that kind of feeling, ya know?" He continues. "Not the
saying, but just that kind of feeling overall."
"Oh, God." Ron says in shock. "We're being held hostage by a
nut..." |
