Eiji Shinrow is dead

Wednesday. 11/02/05. 04:11:50 AM

Ryo was fairly awake tonight, having taken naps here and there at the dollar theater down at Carriage Place, on the corner of Bethel Road and Sawmill. On Tuesdays, it was only fifty cents to see a movie in that theater, and if you wanted to, you could easily movie hop to other movies as soon as the one you paid for was finished, and continue doing this until you wanted to leave.
Ryo remembered of the hot summer days when he would do this with friends, hopping from one big blockbuster movie to another, spending their entire day in air conditioner rooms with big THX sound blasting from every side of the big projection screen.
Ryo slept at every one of the movies he watched today, napping in each one of them, and then hopping to the next one, hoping to stay awake at that one also. He always failed and tried again and again, hoping to do better at the other one.
All he had now was time to kill.
Until the determined time.
If he even believed in the old man.
Days ago, the old man took a deep sigh, and relaxed his shoulders as he opened up his eyes for the first time. Although he was of Asian descent, he had bright blue eyes, glowing strangely in the darkness of the room. "Days ago, when Eiji came to visit me," He said, "I gave him a magical spell to determine and choose his own future in the paths of fate."
As if on cue, the young woman sitting right next to him shifted her weight and stared at Ryo right in the eyes.
"I told Eiji that the spell would allow him to die if he so much wishes to end his life," the old man continued. "And if he does wish to live, the spell would wear off in a week or so, and he would never have to worry about it ever again."
"So you're telling me that your voodoo killed Eiji Shinrow?" Ryo asked with almost a sneer.
"Believe it or not, it is all up to you." The old man said as he closed his eyes again, sitting motionless on the bean bag. "I've already given you all the information that I know, for anything beyond that only Eiji would know."
Ryo looked at the old man suspiciously, and asked with a firm voice. "Why did you give him this spell, if you knew that it would kill him?"
"I didn't know it would kill him," The old man smiled. "It was all up to his choice." He paused. "He could have lived a happy life, easily, there was no guarantee that he would die from it." Opening his eyes again, he looked straight into Ryo's eyes. "In fact, nobody is ever certain about anything now, am I correct? The only thing that is ever certain in the world is that there is no certainty in the world, and that's what keeps everything such a mystery, and that's what keeps curiosity so alive."
"I think you just broke your own uncertainty rule by saying that there is a certainty in the uncertainty of the world." Ryo smiled.
The old man didn't seem to be phased by the respond, but kept his smile and his calm posture. "If you listen closely, you'll be able to meet Eiji Shinrow, if you want."
Ryo stared at the old man with attention. "How?"
"Friday, November fourth, two thousand and five, after twelve o'clock AM midnight." The young woman spoke up, her voice echoing in the emptiness of the room. "You'll find him sitting on the grass slopes near the soccer fields at Ohio State University, the field right by the bridge over Olentangy River Road, and the road bridge that connects both the campus itself and the other side of the Olentangy River. Just by the Lincoln Tower, and the parking lot right besides it." A pause. "He'll be sitting there staring at the dim lights of the University campus itself, reminiscing about the days when he was still a college student."
Ryo was stunned, he didn't know what to say.
"I believe that's all that you wanted to know for now." The old man smiled, as the young woman besides him stood up, and gently pointed towards the door with her open palms up.
