Zen Cha was quiet when Ryo sat down with Eiji on a table near
the end of the salon, by the big plasma television showing
movies of moving streams and far away mountains, the music
echoing in the place trying to catch up to the images, as the
waitresses prepare the teas that they have ordered, almond chai
by Eiji and iron buddha by Ryo, the western tasting milk tea
versus the strong eastern pure tea.
Eiji smiled as they sat down, as Ryo stared at him with serious
eyes.
"First of all," Ryo asked. "How did you do it?"
"How did I do what?" Eiji replied.
"You were dead, the coroners checked it, opened you up, and
removed your organs." Ryo pointed at Eiji, still unsure about
the reality that he faced. "My point is, how can you be here,
how is it possible?"
Eiji shrugged. "I'm not sure myself, it's not something that I
have an answer to you."
"But how did you even..."
"No idea." Eiji shrugged again. "My eyes opened up, I got up,
felt cold, and went for the door and got out."
Ryo was quiet for a long time as he tried to absorb all this.
"D-Do you..." He tried asking. "Do you have a scar, or anything
that the autopsy would have left behind?"
Non-chalantly, Eiji lifted his t-shirt up and showed Ryo his
chest. There were no scars there, nothing being opened up or
sewed up at all, a complete bareness from any kind of operation
marks.
"How is it possible..." Ryo couldn't finish his question.
"Once again, there is no way I could answer that." Eiji smiled.
"I woke up, I'm here, and that's all."
Ryo was quiet again, as he bit his lower lip, trying to figure
his reality into all of this mess. "Wha-What did you do
afterwards?" Was all that he could spurt out at the moment.
"I got up, felt cold, unlocked the door and left." Eiji replied,
same smile on his face. "I went back to my apartment to get some
clothes, since all I had on at the time were the scrubs, and
when I got there, I showered, dressed up, and headed out to my
car."
"B-But, why?"
"I needed to see some people." Eiji chuckled at this. "I don't
know how to explain this to you, but it felt like I was gone a
long, long time, and I wanted to see a few friends of mine, to
tell them of what I felt like, of what I realized while I was
gone."
Ryo looked at him. "And what was that?"
"That life was worth living, that everything is not as bad and
depressing as I've been seeing them."
Ryo looked at him straight, trying to get his thoughts in line.
"W-What happened there?" He asked, stuttering as he tried to
make the question count. "H-How did you die? How did you kill
yourself?"
And then the waitress arrived with their teas on a waiter's
tray. |
