Eiji's roommate, Brett Day, was working the night Eiji died. They both had worked at the Hyatt Regency at Columbus, and often did the overnight shift, 'graveyard' to those who's worked it before. Brett Day was also the publisher of Eiji's comics in a way, putting out two of his works, "Dark Sights" and "Dark Signs" earlier this year, and selling them around the conventions that he always goes to.
"Eiji always hated conventions, so he usually skipped them unless it was anything related to his works." Brett replied to Ryo Hayashi at the police station, his face and head buried between his arms and hands. "He said that it bored him, because he could never find anything exciting about them." He looked up at Ryo. "He said he was getting bored of anime anyway, so that was an even less reason for him to go to conventions."
"So do you remember what happened on the night he died?" Ryo sipped the cold coffee that was sitting in front of him.
"No, not at all." Brett buried his head and face into his hands again. "The kid was an insomniac, so he would usually just sleep for like five hours or so and then get up and do something." He let out a chuckle. "I'm the opposite, I sleep like a brick when I pass out, so by the time I woke up, it was already like ten in the evening and I had like half an hour to go to work. Eiji was already gone, and when I called his cell phone, he didn't answer, so I just went to work after leaving him a message to call me back."
"So you have no idea where he might have been?"
Brett was silent for a moment, before speaking again. "He might have been hanging out with a friend of his, Cyber Tiger. They usually just drove around looking at things and checking out bookstores in their free days."
"Do you know where she lives?"
"No, but I do have her cell phone number..."
