The night was sort of chilly as the rain drops fell from the
dark gray clouds covering the sky. Ryo Hayashi was not amused at
it at all. He wasn't sure why he was still going on with this
investigation, considering that it really didn't matter now, did
it? One more man died in the world of billions, big freaking
deal. He wondered if anybody cared.
He wanted to sleep now, since he had to get up early tomorrow to
meet up with the person who was probably with Eiji Shinrow last,
his friend Cyber Tiger, at Eiji's funeral at the local Methodist
church.
According to Brett Day, Eiji was an atheist, even though he was
born a Buddhist, raised a Christian, went to a Catholic school
before completely giving up on religion. Eiji had said that
religion was a false hope to humanity, and that if he wanted a
false hope that lighten life up, he was better off with one that
at least gave some sort of enjoyment and different experience
out of it. That was the reason he turned towards drugs.
Funny thing was, that Eiji had a friend who drowned about a
month ago, a friend of a friend whose memory was blurred by the
alcohol eyes that he had when he met him. Eiji had told Brett
that he had regretted knowing people through those small scenes
blurred out by drugs, how he didn't want to remember people
anymore through any drug filters that invaded his mind.
Eiji had said that that was the reason why his relationships
didn't last long, for when your relationship started with drugs,
it'll end eventually like the effects on those drugs do, and the
fall after the high is never a pretty one.
Eiji had every reason to die, Ryo guessed, but it would have
ended his case if Eiji had just died in a suicide, jumped off a
building or ran in front of a truck or something.
Even hanging himself in his closet would have been a nice
gesture.
Lying there in his bed, eyes staring at the ceiling, Ryo still
wondered how Eiji had died the way he did, how he wasn't filled
with poisons or drugs or anything that could at least give him a
satisfying answer, one enough to just put a stamp on it and say
that it is all solved, that the case is closed.
Ryo hasn't had a decent night's sleep ever since he wasn't able
to close the case.
How do you will your body to just die like he did? Is that even
possible? Has anyone just shut off their body functions and
ordered their minds to die? To give up? To stop living?
Ryo wondered if there was anything that the five autopsy doctors
missed. |
