The sun woke Ryo up again today, the morning starting when dawn
pours in through the windows, the light sipping through the
carpet until it reaches him, until it gently wakes him up to
look at the start of a brand new day.
Sitting up on his bed, looking out, he was reminded of
something, something that he maybe forgot, something that he may
not have remembered at all.
Deja vu?
There was something out that window that was calling to him,
something that he had felt like before.
Is this maybe the reason why Eiji gave him that address before?
Heading out, the morning breeze greeted his skin and softly
brushed through his hair, so gently that Ryo couldn't help but
give out a soft sigh, closing his eyes and gently breathing in
the salt sea and the white sands.
That was probably when it all started to click, when he started
to remember what he had forgotten before, that dream that he had
before, that dream that kept coming back over and over again.
Slowly opening his eyes, he wondered how he had forgotten it
all.
The scene right in front of him, the purple peach sky slowly
lighting up, the sun warmly enlightening everything around it,
the sea quietly murmuring its song.
This was the exact same thing he dreamt about, this was the
exact same scene he had lived before in his sleep.
And wowed by it all, he slowly sat down on the sand, the beauty
of the scene sapping all the energy out of him, his heart
beating fast.
He was living in a scene from his dream.
And entranced by it all, he didn't even notice the footsteps
being made in the sand, a jogger marking her trail before the
waves wash it away.
"Pretty dawn, huh?" The voice almost made Ryo jump out of
surprise.
"Yeah, it's really beautiful." He turned around, and saw that
the voice belonged to a young woman with a white sports bra and
red shorts, her straight long brown hair tied up on a ponytail,
her ears covered up by headphones with an antenna sticking out
of the side.
"It hasn't been like this for a while." She continued, sitting
down on the sand right besides him. "It's usually either full of
people or trash, either of them making the dawn less than
perfect when you see it, but today," she paused as she smiled
and nodded in approval. "It's perfect."
Ryo smiled at that. It was just the way she said it, with a tone
that resembled a kindergarten child. "My name is Ryo Hayashi, by
the way." He said, extending his hand out.
"Paula Shields." She took his hand, and then, with a confused
look, she asked. "Have I ever met you before?"
Shaking her hand, Ryo slowly remembered it all. "Would you
believe it if I told you that you were the girl of my dreams?"
He asked, unsure of how else to phrase it.
Paula turned red straight away. "Excuse me?" She asked after she
slowly got over the shock, her hand still in Ryo's, who was
chuckling at the reaction.
"Sorry to surprise you like that." He replied, as he paused to
think of a better way of explaining this to her. "Ever since I
was a kid, I had this dream, of sitting happily on a beach like
this one, meeting a girl that looked exactly like you."
The girl still looked confused, a face expression that Ryo
couldn't help but laugh about it.
"I know it sounds strange," Ryo continued. "But please don't
freak out over it, I'm just telling you the truth, whether you
believe in it or not."
She shakes her head with an understanding smile. "No, that's not
it at all." She pauses as she looks back at the ocean waves
splashing their songs. "It's just that, I think I know what
you're talking about."
Now Ryo is the one with the confused face.
"When I think about it, I had this feeling of having seen you
before too." She replies. "That's the reason why I decided to
pause and talk to you, to see if I could remember that feeling
from before, to see if I could remember where I had that feeling
before."
Nodding, Ryo looked towards the dawn as she did, the day now
officially en route.
"Have you ever had a feeling, that you were living in a dream,
and that you are just waking up right now?" She asked, her hand
still in his, and his still in hers.
Looking into her blue eyes, he understood it all, and realized
the reason why he was here now.
"I'm awake now." He replied simply, smiling and squinting at the
rising sunlight, from a million of miles away. "This is my
life."
The footsteps of Paula were now erased by the rushing waves, the
mark of the jogger now replaced by nothing more than wet white
sand. If anybody walked by, it would have just seemed like they
both had been there the whole time, together, without a care in
the world.
The sun went up and down, and the smile stayed on their faces.
